ABOUT THE ARTIST
Marvin Friedman exhibits a thorough knowledge of drawing in rendering the most complex subject matter with a direct reportorial manner. His color is vibrant and exciting; his control of values impressive.
Friedman was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, and his solid training was acquired at the Philadelphia Museum School of Art where he studied under Henry C. Pitz and Ben Eisenstat.
His first published work was for small religious publications, followed by illustrating for Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, The Ladies’ Home Journal, Playboy, Changing Times, This Week, Cavalier, Redbook, Ford Times, Boys’ Life, Better Homes & Gardens, and a long series for Gourmet magazine.
His advertising clients have included the Ford Motor Company and Sharp & Dohme Pharmaceuticals. In addition, Friedman has illustrated some thirty-five children’s books.
Since 1980, he has devoted increasing time to painting. He recently won a major grant from the State of New Jersey to paint four large murals for the Burlington County Memorial Hospital. He regularly exhibits at the American Watercolor Society and other institutions, such as the Moore Institute of Philadelphia, the Society of Illustrators and the Philadelphia College of Art.
